COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Students from Chippewa Valley Montessori Charter School spent the past month crafting about 40 baby blankets and delivered them to Mayo Clinic Hospital in Eau Claire on Tuesday for newborns — nearly 150 students walked to the birth center.  WQOW
  • Outdoor ice rinks and warming shelters open December 30 in Eau Claire if weather holds — Boyd Park, Roosevelt Park and Putnam Heights offer both while Mitscher Park and Sam Davey Park have skating only. Pinehurst warming shelter is available December 26 to December 29 from noon to 7 p.m.  WQOW

CULTURE NEWS

  • Clearwater Clues will host its winter medallion hunt from December 26 to January 9 in the Chippewa Valley; families will follow daily clues on Facebook to explore local art and history while competing for prizes like Babe’s Bucket.  WEAU

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After a snowy start Monday with snow depth (2 inches), the weather cleared today and highs reached the mid 30s; conditions remain calm through Christmas Day. A low pressure system will bring light drizzle, freezing rain and a wintry mix Thursday night that could create slick roads.  WQOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Jan. 1, 2026, Eau Claire Transit will waive bus fares for high school students and riders under 18 — a measure to ease transportation for local youth.  Leader-Telegram
  • A shared-use 10-foot-wide path along Birch Street and McKinley Road between River Prairie Drive & State Highway 312 is planned by Eau Claire County, the City of Eau Claire, the Town of Seymour, and WisDOT. Construction will begin in 2028 with an estimated cost of $1.3M.  WEAU

HEALTH NEWS

  • As holiday travel and visitors stress pets, the Eau Claire Community Humane Association recommends that owners keep familiar items like a blanket + bed and get extra exercise for dogs to stay calm. Cats may need separate space during busy gatherings.  WQOW
