CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Gilman's Christmas Festival started eight years ago when Fred Romig proposed decorating the village, and it now draws growing crowds with high school volunteers lighting up bridges, trees and fences. The event has grown from 75 to 700 attendees (thanks to community donations and support). WEAU
- ➤ Local family members formed Chippewa Valley Carolers to sing for assisted living, sober living, and hospital residents this holiday season — reviving a cherished tradition. The group will perform at Orchard Hills Assisted Living on Dec. 14 and Dove West Assisted Living on Dec. 21 and invites volunteers. WEAU
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Eau Claire Family Resource Center announced the Imagination Library campaign (supporting early childhood literacy) received a $100,000 pledge from the Augusta Area Foundation and $75,000 from local residents to fund free books for children through October 2027. WEAU
- ➤ University archivist Greg Kocken explained that UW-Eau Claire’s footbridge was originally planned as an enclosed, heated structure to ease student flow during booming enrollment in the 1950s and ’60s, but budget constraints led to the open design that has become a campus rite of passage. WQOW

- ➤ Western Wisconsin will see two rounds of snow as a light round tonight brings half-inch to 2 inches of accumulation while a stronger system moves in tomorrow afternoon and continues overnight, prompting Winter Weather Advisories for parts of the region; residents should use caution during commutes. - ➤ Phase two of the development on Lake Road has been resubmitted to build only ten larger townhomes instead of 12 due to slow sales.
