COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Eau Claire Parks, Recreation & Forestry announced that Letters to Santa will return for the Clearwater Winter Parade on Dec. 5 from 6:30 p.m. — 8:00 p.m., with residents instructed to hand their stamped letters to a USPS postal worker to ensure delivery to the North Pole. The event is part of the local holiday celebration.  WEAU
  • HOM Furniture kicked off its third annual winter clothing drive Monday morning at 10 a.m. to collect coats, gloves, boots, hats and other gear for homeless students and children in the local school district—Queens Dry Cleaning will clean the donations until December 27.  WEAU
  • The Salvation Army of the Chippewa Valley is asking for bell ringing volunteers as cold weather has reduced sign-ups early in the holiday season — donations have reached $11,000 and Toys for Tots volunteer spots are full.  WQOW
  • The YMCA of the Chippewa Valley started its '72 Hours of Impact' campaign to raise $20,000 for programs like swimming lessons, discounted memberships, and sober living support. The campaign runs until December 4 at 10 a.m.—donations can be made at YMCA locations or online.  WQOW

BUSINESS NEWS

  • D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc. will begin offering its beer in Wisconsin in early 2026—a decision driven by local requests—and residents will soon have access to its iconic Traditional Lager. This expansion marks a new chapter for the nearly 200-year-old brewery as it reaches more Midwest fans.  WQOW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Wisconsin Eau Claire is asking for donations on Giving Tuesday to grow its police therapy dog program—police aim to raise $3,000 for training, emergency vet care, and travel for Mocha, a 10-week-old labradoodle that will help build ties between students and law enforcement.  WQOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Eau Claire County Department of Human Services launched the High Acuity Foster Home Initiative to help local children with complex needs return from out-of-state care to community-based homes — the program offers specialized training for foster parents and a monthly stipend that may save the county up to $25,000 per child compared to out-of-state care.  WQOW
  • The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection and the Department of Financial Institutions warned local donors ahead of Giving Tuesday about scams that ask for immediate payment—especially via gift cards. Administrator Michelle Reinen advised donors to verify organizations’ contact details and ensure they understand how funds will be used before donating.  WQOW

  • The UWEC volleyball team departed for the Elite 8 on December 1 — the Blugolds women’s basketball team improved to 7-1 with a win over Martin Luther as both Eleva-Strum boys and girls basketball teams earned victories.  WEAU
