- ➤ Veterans Day offers and events will be available Tuesday, Nov. 11. Festival Foods will offer 16 free products for a $20 purchase while supplies last — Hy-Vee will serve a breakfast from 6 to 10 a.m. with a 15% discount for veterans and active-duty members, and La Crosse Freedom Honor Flight will host a breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. at the UWL Fieldhouse in Mitchell Hall. - ➤ Food banks in Eau Claire are facing a sharp rise in demand as the government shutdown enters its 38th day and families start preparing for Thanksgiving—local volunteers help at Feed My People Food Bank while aisles overflow with food for those in need. WEAU
- ➤ Visit Eau Claire is relaunching the Curd Crawl 2.0—Return of the Curd today with a free mobile pass that uses geolocation for check-ins at 11 local restaurants. The updated event, coming after a brief hiatus since its 2021 debut, will offer new locations and exclusive prizes. WQOW

- ➤ Earthbound Environmental Solutions will hold a special Fall yard waste collection week — November 10th to 14th — for its subscribers, letting them place up to 5 free bags of yard waste at the curbside. WEAU
- ➤ Today, the City of Eau Claire offers free self-service compost at Compost-Palooza held at the Green Waste Facility/Brush site on 5710 Jeffers Road from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.—the event will repeat on Nov. 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and residents must bring shovels, tools, and containers to load their own compost. - ➤ Crews are expanding Lake Altoona County Park by building a retaining wall, grassy seating near the beach, and a new pavilion with tables and benches—funded partly by a 50% Wisconsin DNR match grant, the project will be ready for use next spring. Families will soon have a new space to enjoy the lake and its surroundings. WQOW

- ➤ A recent study in Eau Claire found that people with hearing loss who use hearing aids early have a 61% lower risk of dementia when they are under 70 and tested 20 years later—leading local audiologists to stress the importance of quick hearing screenings for those exposed to loud environments. - ➤ On Friday, UW-Eau Claire's volleyball team played UW-Oshkosh for the WIAC regular season title—while the men's basketball team opened its season at home against St. Norbert and both hockey teams battled St. Olaf. WEAU
- ➤ Friday night, top Western Wisconsin high school teams played Level 3 football playoff games across several divisions. In Division 6, Regis made a comeback with a punt return touchdown even though Mondovi led by two scores, but Mondovi later scored a late go-ahead touchdown and sealed the win—while Cochrane-Fountain City, River Falls, and Northwestern won their matchups and Rice Lake ended its season.
