- ➤ United Way of the Greater Chippewa Valley needs volunteers for its annual progress review team and a three-year grant review team to help guide the $750,000 funding for 30 local non-profits—experience in human services and financial report review is preferred. WEAU
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Downtown Eau Claire now features the first Jack-O-Lantern Lane where local kids and adults display carved pumpkins on the patio outside Volume One and The Local Store for a contest with cash prizes and gift cards — the pumpkins will be on display through November 1. Visitors can come by during the day or see the lights at night to enjoy the creative artwork. WQOW

- ➤ Dry fall weather raises wildfire risk in Wisconsin as two-thirds of the state is under a moderate fire danger warning—fuel from dead leaves and dry vegetation increases the chance of fires. So far, 50 wildfires have been reported in October and officials advise against burning yard waste until winter brings safer conditions. WQOW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Monday marked the 27th day of the government shutdown, and FMP said that SNAP benefits might be reduced, which could affect local families. Local officials are monitoring the issue closely—additional delays in food support may follow if the shutdown continues. Leader-Telegram
- ➤ Eau Claire will start enforcing alternate side parking rules at midnight Saturday, November 1. Drivers must park on the even side on even dates and the odd side on odd dates until May 1, 2026. News8000.com
