- ➤ Residents in Eau Claire and Altoona will drop off unused or expired medications and sharps for safe disposal at National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day this Saturday, October 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Eau Claire County Government Center — Altoona Police Department. WQOW
- ➤ Two local artists completed the Lightscape tunnel mural at Boyd Park along the East Side Hill in Eau Claire to brighten a well traveled passage—boosting a safer feel for pedestrians and cyclists. They planned the project last winter and began painting in August, and they plan to add lights that cast shadows when people walk and bike through the tunnel. WQOW

- ➤ At Chippewa Valley Regional Airport, a small plane went onto its belly on the runway Sunday with no injuries reported and was removed by 9:00 p.m.—the FAA or NTSB will investigate the cause of the incident. WEAU

- ➤ Todd Schnuck, the chairman of 1939 Group, Inc., announced that the group completed its purchase of Festival Foods and Hometown Grocers to join a total of 164 stores across several states. He will now lead Festival Foods and Hometown Grocers while the brands remain unchanged—focusing on serving their customers. WQOW
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Today, the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library begins the Chippewa Valley Book Festival with a cookbook and tasting event at good wives restaurant. The festival runs through Saturday evening at Leona's Pizzeria — many events are free but registration is required. WQOW

- ➤ The L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library reopened all off-site return locations on Oct. 15 — after closing them in September for staffing shortages. WEAU
- ➤ Community members gathered outside the school district office on Monday to protest plans that may close neighborhood schools after weeks of strong feedback. Superintendent Mike Johnson said the district would delay the initial proposals (though school closures are still a possibility) and will consider other options (such as redistributing Pre-K students) to keep schools open.
