- ➤ The hall-EAU-ween 5K returns to downtown Eau Claire as a family-friendly Halloween run along the illuminated riverfront offering costumes, music and community fun. Local residents will join the festive event to celebrate the season with engaging activities. The Chippewa Herald
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Last month, a fundraiser helped free three therapy dogs that were locked up to raise funds for Eau Claire County Crime Stoppers. K9 Donut raised $718, K9 Millie raised $640, and K9 Murphy raised $188 — a total of nearly $1,550 in donations. WEAU
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Pablo Center at the Confluence announced the 715 Series—seven shows presented by Prevail Bank that will start on November 22 in the Manz Green Room with a record release concert by Courtney Hartman, and tickets go on sale October 17. WEAU
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ CVTC held its ribbon cutting today to unveil updated spaces—paid for by a 2020 referendum approved by voters in 11 districts—and showcased a new conference center and state-of-the-art apprenticeship lab for hands-on learning. - ➤ The Eau Claire Community Humane Association has raised concerns over proposed cat ordinance changes that would require leashing and increase licensing fees and fines—warning that higher costs may lead to more unlicensed or abandoned cats—and noted that the Sustainability Advisory Committee will discuss the proposal today. - ➤ The Wisconsin State Senate passed Bill 29 on Tuesday—this measure will require school boards to ban non-education cell phones during school hours. Polls from Marquette University show 72% of Wisconsinites support a full ban while 89% back a ban during class, and Senator Rachael Cabral-Guevara hopes the Governor signs the bill soon. WQOW
- ➤ Governor Evers visited UW-Eau Claire on Tuesday to tour the McIntyre Library’s Chicāhuac Exhibition honoring brave women from rural Mexico who moved to the Midwest — he also negotiated a bipartisan deal to secure $256 million in increased funding for UW schools in the upcoming summer budget. - ➤ Rep. Jodi Emerson from Eau Claire honored Officer Tony Helstern at the State Capitol as the First Responder of the Year for the 91st Assembly District—Helstern, with over 12 years of service, was recognized for saving two people from a residential fire on April 9th and received community support for his nomination. - ➤ Governor Tony Evers visited UWEC on Tuesday to tour a new exhibit that shows the stories of women who stay home while their family works on dairy farms — the exhibit, made with nonprofit Puentes/Bridges during Latinx Heritage Month, will be on view at McIntyre Library until November 4. WQOW

- ➤ Belle Kongshaug of Colfax/Elk Mound won her third-straight division two golf state championship by posting back-to-back 74 rounds for a 148 total and a four-over finish—she became the fifth high school golfer to win three individual titles. Her younger sister Clara finished fifth at University Ridge to help Colfax/Elk Mound secure a third-place finish while Spooner earned their first division two team title. WEAU
- ➤ Prep girls golfers chased glory at the final day of the WIAA state tournament on October 14—while Regis volleyball hosted Loyal and Eau Claire Memorial played Menomonie.
