🎭 Culture
Local artists Mel Georgakopoulos and Tyree Heding are painting a 17-ft-wide mural at North Barstow and Wisconsin that reimagines the bellwort flower with bold colors.
They work three days a week and plan to complete it in the coming weeks, inviting the community to enjoy the evolving art scene.
UW-Eau Claire held a ceremony on Monday, Oct.
12 with a water ceremony and indigenous nations talk to mark 8 years of native recognition in Wisconsin.
🎓 Education
University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire is hosting its final planetarium shows at L.E.
Phillips Planetarium before moving to the new Riverside Science Center. Weekly evening shows start at 7 p.m. with $5 cash admission and conclude on Thursday, Dec. 10.
Fall Creek High School received a Blue Ribbon School award from DPI for closing the achievement gap.
Principal Trevor Kohlhepp said the school and its elementary and middle school teams work together (under one roof) to improve instruction and build on their success.
🌲 Environment
Wisconsin had planted over 54.7 million trees as part of its Trillion Trees Pledge and is nearing 55% of its goal of 100 million trees by 2030.
The state is now taking orders for its spring 2027 planting season (a step that lets residents support forest care).
🏥 Health
Chippewa County reports 11 confirmed measles cases today, with statewide totals reaching 263 (all cases are travel-related).
Health officials urge residents to check MMR vaccination records (97% effective) and get vaccinated if needed.
