  • Today, Hope Gospel Mission will host the 24-hour 'Conversations on a Bench' livestream outside Reboot Social—where executive director Sandi Polzin will have one-on-one talks with community members on homelessness, addiction, and mental health. The event honors National Homelessness Day and aims to spark better local support.  WEAU
  • Hope Gospel Mission started its Conversations on a Bench event on Thursday at 2 p.m. as Executive Director Sandi Polzin began speaking with local residents about homelessness, addiction & mental health for the next 24 hours. The event is part of a national movement of nearly 100 faith-based organizations and ends today to mark World Homeless Day.  WQOW

  • HeartWorks opened its new headquarters in Eau Claire today—where the organization plans to grow and develop solutions for people born with heart defects.  Leader-Telegram

  • The Eau Claire Area School District approved its balanced preliminary budget for the 2025-26 school year—setting key funding levels for classrooms and staff needs.  Leader-Telegram

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, Eau Claire dropped to 31° with frost marking the second cold morning while parts of the Chippewa Valley warmed into the 60s. A cold front will bring scattered showers from 6 to 8 p.m. and from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.—drought conditions have returned to parts of western Wisconsin.  WQOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Eau Claire city officials proposed a 2026 budget that will raise the current $24 wheel tax to $50 if approved—tax revenue will go toward transportation projects to address inflation and road repairs. Residents may share their opinions at upcoming public hearings.  News8000.com
  • University of Wisconsin—Eau Claire and the Eau Claire Police Department are running a party registry program that lets off-campus students register parties online with 48 hours notice to receive a warning instead of a citation; ECPD Patrol Lieutenant Olivia Erl said about 100 parties are registered each year to give police a direct point of contact for noise complaints.  WQOW
  • The city is reviewing two options to modify the Chippewa River State Trail near the Dewey Street Bridge to provide a safer route for pedestrians and bicyclists. Engineering Director Leah Ness said she leans toward the option running along the river — with the bridge design expected in 2026 and construction set for 2027, pending property acquisition.  WQOW

HEALTH NEWS

  • The first Rice Lake Walk for Breakthrough T1D will debut at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire-Barron County on Saturday, Oct. 11. The event begins with a parade at 9 a.m.—followed by a 2-mile walk along the Red Cedar River at 10:30 a.m. that offers face painting, hair chalk, and yard games.  WEAU

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Eau Claire real estate developer Jerry Green said his company will replace the closed Klein Hall veterans home with a new facility in the Eau Claire—Altoona area if state funding is approved, with the state paying only the lease cost. The new center will have 24—48 beds and offer mental health, substance abuse support and counseling, and it is expected to open in fall if the Senate votes to provide the needed funds.  WQOW
