- ➤ The One Better Way building is nearing completion as extensive remodeling creates a day resource center and housing services to help guests facing homelessness. The facility will offer upgraded restrooms, showers, offices, and a patient care room — funded by nearly $3-million in early pledges as the current shelter winds down. WQOW
- ➤ Rock Creek Disabled Outdoors will host its 27th Hunt for Hunters with Disabilities in Clark County during one week in October to let hunters with challenges enjoy deer hunting. Board members said volunteer guides will help hunters navigate 7,700 acres to create a supportive outdoor experience — a cherished event for the community. WEAU
- ➤ Power of Perception, a local group for black and biracial students, received 250 free tickets to see Black Violin perform at the Pablo Center in Eau Claire on Wednesday night—Dennis Beale said the event gave students a chance to see performers who share their background and inspire them to achieve their dreams. - ➤ Nonprofit Ski Sprites will open its annual Wicked Oz Haunted House on Thursday, October 16 to raise funds for new equipment and travel as it turns a space into a dark version of the Wizard of Oz story—where familiar characters become scary. The event will run until November 1 and will be held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. WEAU
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A Hmong New Year celebration marking fifty years since Hmong refugees arrived will be held at The Sonnentag on Oct. 11 and Oct. 12 from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.—featuring food, cornhole, volleyball, dancing and more. Cheng Cha said the event expects over 5,000 attendees and offers parking at The Sonnentag with overflow at a nearby YMCA. WEAU
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Governor Tony Evers visited Tiffany Elementary School in Boyceville yesterday morning to talk with students and staff about his state's continued investments in education—he pointed to a $1.4 million budget that funds early childhood programs, mental health services and special education. WQOW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ County officials recommended a remodel project for the government building that will add security for the Court of Commissioners on the second floor and expand the Bailiff Office. The $1.8 million proposal—half the cost of the previous plan—will convert an unused third floor into criminal justice offices and is set for formal approval later this fall. WQOW
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ OakLeaf Surgical Hospital opened River Prairie Surgery Center—located at 3119 Woodman Drive—to expand outpatient surgical care. Interim Administrator Alex Stipetich said the facility is a long-term investment in community health and service sustainability. WEAU
