  • Xcel Energy is replacing the old gas pipes on Hastings Way by boring under the Eau Claire River to connect lines from Main Street to near Galloway Street—this project will ensure a reliable gas supply as residents see one lane of traffic reopen while the sidewalk at Hastings and Main is closed. The project is slated to finish by the end of October.  WQOW

  • Wisconsin soybean farmers face lower demand for their strong yields as new tariffs in the trade war with China push buyers to cheaper Latin American options—local farmer Phil Verges said increased fertilizer costs and oversupply have led to negative margins.  WEAU

  • UW-Eau Claire celebrated its 100th annual homecoming week that honored a century of school traditions — the campus hosted events that recalled important milestones in its history.  Leader-Telegram

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Eau Claire is hosting the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Canine Handler Association 2025 Conference which began yesterday and will run through Wednesday—training sessions are held at more than a dozen locations across the city while law enforcement officers work with their K9 units; the event is closed to the public and residents are asked to give space to the handlers and dogs.  WQOW

  • Chippewa Valley residents gathered in Menomonie on Saturday—voicing concerns over uncertain federal healthcare funding amid the ongoing government shutdown.  Leader-Telegram
  • Oakleaf will open River Prairie Surgery Center in Altoona after finishing renovations on the former Prevea Clinic—community members celebrated the new effort to bring back essential health services after over a year without them.
