COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Field of Screams haunted trail and barn opens today with a Hunted theme at 8020 Curvue Road—150 scare actors support local groups like Feed My People and the Eau Claire County 4-H Older Youth Council.  WEAU
  • The Eau Claire Police Department has shared the route for today's homecoming parade down Water St.—it starts at 2nd Ave and ends at the Sonnentag Center with road closures from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  WEAU

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Metropolis Resort is set to appear before the planning commission soon to discuss a major expansion of Action City—Eau Claire’s largest indoor family fun center—and reveal plans for a new 50,000-square-foot building with state-of-the-art attractions slated to open in fall. Resort officials said the project aims to offer more fun for families, young adults, and groups.  WEAU

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chippewa Valley Museum is showing the new 'Super Monster City' exhibit that features toys, comics plus vintage trailers and commercials from the past 80 years of pop culture. The exhibit will run until December 28.  WEAU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Eau Claire Memorial High School, students built a native plant prairie in a 700 square foot area to support pollinators threatened by habitat loss according to the Wisconsin DNR—students plan to share their conservation methods with local elementary and middle schools.  WQOW
  • Chippewa Valley Technical College held a safety day on Friday to open its new safety training center, drawing 115 local employers from a wide region to hear experts and see hands-on demonstrations—efforts that will promote worker safety on job sites across Wisconsin.  WEAU
  • Keith Karr, a CVTC welding instructor, shares his passion for welding with his son, one of his former students—together they continue a tradition of skill and dedication in the trade.  The Chippewa Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Tony Evers signed an executive order ordering flags to fly at half staff today to honor Adam Zirbel—a Wisconsin DNR forester who died on September 22. Funeral services for Zirbel will be held today in Deforest and Middleton.  WQOW

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Oct. 3, Regis hosted Mondovi in prep football week seven — a clash of undefeated Cloverbelt teams — in a tough game. Other matchups included Eau Claire Memorial facing Wisconsin Rapids, Chippewa Falls at D.C. Everest, Rice Lake against River Falls, and Menomonie versus New Richmond.  WEAU
  • On Oct. 3, prep football games in the Chippewa Valley were exciting as Altoona hosted Baldwin-Woodville and Boyceville played Spring Valley. Bloomer dedicated their field to former coach Jim Van Gordon at halftime during their contest with Northwestern in 8-player football and McDonell topped Luck—marking a fully competitive night.  WEAU
