COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Trinity Equestrian Center will host the Strength in Service Summit on October 3-4 to offer healing and resilience-building for veterans, first responders and the community. The event will feature speakers including keynote Jessica Lynch, a concert by Chris Kroeze and a new tribute fund honoring former Sheriff Ron Cramer—expanding the center’s services to first responders.  WQOW

CULTURE NEWS

  • Eau Claire once had two racetracks—a horse track built in the 1870s on the west side of State Street near the current roundabout and a driving park in the Third Ward that later became a grandstand, athletic field, and residential lots. Today, only the curve of Roosevelt Ave marks the old east end of the track—showing a piece of the city’s past.  WQOW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UW-Eau Claire began its 100th homecoming week with campus events that fueled student pride, and the celebration will continue with a parade on Water Street at 10—followed by a football game at Carson Park at 1 this Saturday.  WQOW
  • UW-Eau Claire has begun its third year of partnership with the emBARK dog training facility to study how dogs learn—focusing on how a dog’s personality affects its reaction to human cues. Over 30 students assist and the facility invites local dog owners to join the study on October 1 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.—a chance for hands-on learning outside the classroom.  WEAU

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Forestry leader Andy Sorenson from the Wisconsin DNR said warm weather with ample rain and cool nights without frost will allow trees in the Chippewa Valley to keep vibrant colors, with peak colors expected in mid-October—Travel Wisconsin’s report shows 15 percent color in local counties. Locals can look forward to a vivid fall display as trees avoid stressors like drought and early frost.  WQOW

  • Eau Claire Transit began operation at its new downtown bus transfer center on Monday— a long-awaited upgrade for local riders.  Leader-Telegram
  • State secretaries met with Eau Claire business owners Monday to discuss how childcare benefits support the state’s workforce and economy—using the feedback to help employers overcome cost challenges.  News8000.com

  • UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stout will play in the I-94 Rivalry game Saturday as they launch their WIAC conference season—both teams stressed the need for an early win to set a strong tone.  WEAU
