  • L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library is hosting Card Crawl 2025 today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—visitors without a library card can sign up at the Customer Services desk and join activities like a bag sale, art swap, and family play day.  WEAU
  • Feed My Starving Children will host a MobilePack Event at Peace Church on October 24-25 to pack over 124,000 meals for malnourished children—volunteers must pre-register as sessions fill up quickly and they can choose from five two-hour packing sessions while bringing nonperishable food for the local food bank, Feed My People.  WQOW
  • United Way’s Day of Caring brought hundreds of volunteers to Chippewa Valley nonprofits, and at Trinity Equestrian Center — known for equine therapy — dozens of WIN Technology volunteers tidied trees in preparation for the upcoming Strength in Service Summit next weekend.  WQOW
  • Today, Eau Claire holds the Sweater Weather Market—an event with more than 40 local vendors selling handcrafted goods, seasonal treats and autumn decor from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Organizers include SLATE Boutique and Gifts along with food trucks and live music to create a lively fall celebration.  WQOW

  • A Musical Showdown tour will take place at the RCU Theater at the Pablo Center when Abbey Road and Satisfaction perform on Wednesday, October 22 — the bands will each play two full sets and finish with a joint encore.  WQOW

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Dr. Thomas Kemp of UW-Eau Claire explained that new tariffs will take effect on Oct. 1 and include a 100% tax on pharmaceutical drugs, 50% on kitchen cabinets, 30% on upholstered furniture, and 25% on heavy trucks — the rules aim to boost domestic production despite potentially higher import prices. He said the tariffs may lead to business uncertainty and fewer job opportunities as companies adjust.  WEAU

  • The Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce partners with local associations to host a Local Candidate Training Workshop on Tuesday, October 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.—participants will learn which offices appear on the ballot and key details for filing in the Spring 2026 election with registration due by Oct. 2.  WEAU
  • Laura Benjamin suspended her campaign for the 3rd Congressional District on Friday — she said the fundraising was not enough to cover the race and she will keep supporting progressive ideas.  News8000.com

  • On September 26, Fall Creek hosted undefeated Regis in prep football in a rematch from a Level One playoff in 2024+ week six matchups also featured Mondovi hosting Neillsville/Granton, Eau Claire North facing D.C. Everest, Menomonie meeting Eau Claire Memorial, Chippewa Falls traveling to Superior, and Rice Lake facing New Richmond.  WEAU
  • Friday night at Alma High School, the undefeated Dairyland Conference teams Cochrane—Fountain City and Pepin/Alma played a close game that ended 15–14 when Parker Kujak scored a 50-yard touchdown and Tucker Bambenek made a two-point conversion on a final 99-yard drive that also supported a cancer awareness fundraiser for former player Caiden Haake. Cochrane—Fountain City will host Eleva—Strum next week while Pepin/Alma will face Whitehall.  WEAU
