COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Altoona will host its seventh annual Ginormous Pumpkin Festival on Saturday, Sep. 27 at River Prairie Park featuring giant pumpkins—last year’s record-setting 2,551-pound pumpkin—and various fall activities including pumpkin races and a pet costume contest. Assistant city administrator Roy Atkinson said the event celebrates the passion of local growers.  WQOW
  • The Kiwanis Club of Eau Claire will host its 67th Paul Bunyan Flapjack Day fundraiser on Saturday, September 27th from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Memorial High School Cafeteria with advanced tickets on sale and a police representative distributing free children’s books + a planned appearance by Paul Bunyan and Pancake Man to support local service projects.  WEAU
  • Hope Gospel Mission will host a 24-hour bench conversation in downtown Eau Claire when Executive Director Sandi Polzin sits from 2 p.m. on October 9 until October 10—livestreaming guest discussions to raise awareness on homelessness.  WQOW
  • Beehive Homes held its first Beehive Bash for a Cause Tuesday to raise funds for local seniors and support a walk to end Alzheimer’s—organizers said the event featured live music, a petting zoo, face painting, and raffles.  WEAU

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers began its annual conference on Sunday in Eau Claire, bringing more than 120 outdoor media members to the Chippewa Valley to promote conservation and youth involvement—President Karen Leatherwood said the event continues a long tradition in outdoor communications. The conference will run until Thursday evening.  WEAU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Protesters and Eau Claire city council president Emily Berge, a challenger to Rep. Van Orden, urged him to withdraw a bill that would block federal funding for groups linked to political violence—Berge said the measure would harm essential city services for local residents.  WQOW
