  • Eau Claire welcomes new families as it grows with its rich cultural diversity, job opportunities, good schools, and local food favorites such as cheeseburgers. The population increased 7% from 2010 to 2020 and is expected to exceed 118,000 in 25 years—promising both challenges and opportunities for the community.  WEAU

CRIME NEWS

  • Regis Catholic schools campus went on short secure when an unauthorized person was removed from its parking lot around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday—police responded quickly and lifted the alert after 15 minutes, ensuring everyone remained safe.  WEAU

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Thursday the Hmong Refugee Simulation Committee released a documentary on five Hmong refugees who turned 50 in the Chippewa Valley following an April youth simulation—this film shows the participants describing their hardships fleeing Vietnam and stresses the need to keep their heritage alive.  WEAU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce has been named the official Wisconsin State Partner for the National Civics Bee and will coordinate the 2026 event in Eau Claire in late spring/early summer. Essay submissions are open through Feb. 3, 2026—the state contest winner will advance to the National Finals in Washington, D.C.  WEAU

HEALTH NEWS

  • Marshfield Clinics now offer flu vaccines and Dr. Robert Bullwinkel advises people—especially kids, older adults, and pregnant women—to get a shot by late October to help prevent a severe flu season as last winter's low vaccination rates led to many hospitalizations.  WQOW
