ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Fire crews battled a blaze at the historic David Drummond House on State Street in the Third Ward—lightning struck the building during a storm and crews brought the fire under control with no injuries reported.  WQOW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • More than a couple dozen students at Eau Claire North High School walked to Mercury Avenue at lunch to demand stricter gun laws after several school shootings raised safety concerns. Organizer August Hendrickson said the protest will continue if lawmakers do not act.  WEAU
  • Declining elementary enrollment has led the Eau Claire School Board to consider two options on Monday for closing or repurposing schools. The district will review plans with a 20-member committee until mid-October—inviting public input to decide a recommendation by November or December.  WQOW

HEALTH NEWS

  • Our House Senior Living Memory Care hosted a carnival on Friday to honor National Assisted Living Week and the caregivers who support 16 residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia—highlighting both festive games and live music. The event recognized the hard work of staff who provide 24/7 care in a challenging setting.  WEAU

  • Rain soaked Week 4 of the prep football season as Chippewa Falls hosted River Falls for a Veterans Appreciation game and Eau Claire North won its first game over Superior while Eau Claire Memorial lost to Marshfield. Rice Lake came from behind against Menomonie and New Richmond faced Hudson—results that show a busy week in prep football.  WEAU
  • Dr. Melody Brennan and Mikey Brooks won the 17th annual Dancing with the Eau Claire Stars as Grand Champions—Amber Steffel and Tyler Hahn finished first, while Katie Behrendt and Dustin Haugle came in second and Andrew Martin with Amber Fox were named Fan Favorite.  WQOW
