ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Eau Claire Fire Department responded Tuesday night to a fire at a duplex on Mary Place where flames and heavy smoke were seen, and one resident left safely and was taken to the hospital for a checkup—firefighters kept the blaze to one unit while the American Red Cross is assisting those displaced and damage is estimated at $550,000 with the cause still under investigation. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Officers responded to a homicide on Aug. 30 at a home on Sunset Drive and found 37-year-old Michael Lee dead from gunshot wounds while arresting 29-year-old Dakota Bilderback—police said the two knew each other. WEAU
- ➤ Eau Claire man Thomas Burback reached a plea deal Tuesday after he was shot in May 2024 during a disturbance when he pointed a gun at officer Ariana Down Larson—Burback pleaded no contest to failing to follow an officer's order and possessing a firearm while intoxicated while charges for pointing a gun and disorderly conduct were dropped and no sentencing date has been set. - ➤ North High School welcomed students this fall with big upgrades funded by a referendum—new learning spaces include a nearly finished library with a podcasting room, a new football stadium that held its first home game, and a forum for 100 students.
