COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Don Jaquish of Jaquish Farms continues his annual sunflower maze fundraiser to aid non-profits and honor his late wife — partnering this year with Joshua’s Camp to help families of young cancer patients. The maze is open today from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on August 31 with the same hours.  WEAU
  • On Aug. 22, 2025, the Eau Claire Police Department ended its K9 Drawing Contest where children submitted drawings of K9 members for a chance to meet the dogs and receive a plushie—winners were chosen by the K9s and their handlers and are now displayed in the lobby.  WEAU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District director of business services and finance Chad Trowbridge said all schools have secure entryways and hold annual safety drills to help keep students safe amid concerns following a recent shooting tragedy—he added that parents and students are urged to report safety tips via Speak Up, Speak Out Wisconsin.  WQOW
  • Michael Carney, a long-time campus member and former student, will lead as interim chancellor starting fall semester to build on UWEC’s legacy using data and inclusive shared governance—he plans this as his final role before retirement. The appointment marks a commitment to open communication between faculty and students while preparing for future challenges.  WEAU

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The City of Eau Claire’s Sustainability Advisory Committee has opened nominations for the Sustainable Eau Claire Awards—honoring individuals, businesses, and organizations that work to make the city greener. Nominations must be submitted online by Oct. 1st.  WEAU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • About 60 people gathered in front of Mayo Hospital on Friday morning to protest Congressman Van Orden and ask him to hold a public town hall to discuss the One Big Beautiful Bill— a measure critics say cuts Medicaid funds and may force rural hospitals to close.  WQOW

HEALTH NEWS

  • Experts from the Family Resource Center warn parents not to share too many details about children’s school photos online as oversharing may attract predators, unwanted comments, and identity theft — they urge keeping such details within close family.  WEAU

  • Cadott football hosted Stanley-Boyd in a Highway 29 rivalry matchup on August 29—other week two prep games featured Fall Creek vs. Barron, Durand-Arkansas vs. Prescott, Altoona vs. Black River Falls, Boyceville vs. Cameron, Chetek-Weyerhaeuser vs. Spring Valley, and Abbotsford vs. Colby.  WEAU
