- ➤ American Legion Post 53 will dedicate its new reflection space at its Water Street location on Saturday, August 23rd at 10:30 a.m. A corn+ brat feed will follow in the parking lot to honor donors and offer veterans a place to rest and reflect. WQOW
- ➤ Today, the Eau Claire Police Department gave 100 carnations to seniors at three local homes and a senior center in partnership with Hy-Vee to mark National Senior Citizens Day. Heritage Senior Living's Life Enrichment Director said the flowers made the residents feel loved. WEAU
- ➤ Eau Claire officials say the city’s two biggest cemeteries have about 5,000 plots left and could run out of burial space in 50 years as roughly 100 plots are sold each year. They point to a shift toward cremations—using columbariums that help save space and cut upkeep costs—that may slow the decline in available plots. WEAU
- ➤ The 44th annual Buckshot Run will take place Saturday, Aug. 30 at Carson Park, where runners will support the L.E. Phillips Career Development Center and local Special Olympics athletes. Race starts at 9:00 a.m. — a free kids run follows, and participants may pick up race materials on Aug. 28 or Aug. 29 at the center. WEAU

- ➤ Ukrainian refugees Andrii Sabazov and Maryna Sabazova opened Borsch House about a month ago in Altoona’s container park to serve traditional meals starting at 6 a.m.—they aim to create jobs and share their heritage after fleeing Ukraine in 2022. WEAU

- ➤ Community members in Eau Claire can enjoy jazz music & art at the Brewing Projekt during the 5th annual Clearwater Jazz and Art Festival, which features over 15 musicians and 12 artists and poets from around the region. - ➤ Chippewa Valley Technical College President Sunem Beaton-Garcia, UW-Stout Chancellor Katherine Frank, and UWEau Claire Interim Chancellor Mike Carney met at the CVTC Business Education Center on Thursday morning to share plans for the 2025–2026 school year—discussing how artificial intelligence will shape course content and build workforce ties. - ➤ The Eau Claire Department of Human Services is enhancing support for at-risk youth by adding a staff member to the 180 Program at the Juvenile Detention Center. The new position is funded by a $247,000 grant from the Department of Justice and will strengthen the Aftercare Program to prevent reoffending. WQOW
