ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters responded to a kitchen fire at a home on Victory Street in Fall Creek just before 4 p.m. Monday when smoke was seen coming from the front—investigators found the fire started on the stove and spread to the kitchen cabinets before being quickly put out with no injuries reported.  WEAU

CRIME NEWS

  • Three people were charged with drug-related offenses after police searched a home at 534 Chippewa Street on Aug. 6 and found drug paraphernalia, money, THC, cocaine, LSD, and MDMA—Antonio Cantu and Dillon Linn are charged with maintaining a drug trafficking place.  WEAU
  • Police charged Du'Marion Stogner Monday—accused of murdering Andre Simmons in January, holding a man against his will, and beating a homeless man on a downtown bridge—and Jaden Denham for battery; Stogner is in jail and must go to court Thursday.  WQOW
  • Two men were charged with substantial battery after a cellphone video showed an attack on a downtown footbridge in October 2024—Jaden Denham is scheduled to appear on August 14th at 9:30 a.m. and Du’Marion Stogner will appear on September 18th at 11 a.m.  WEAU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Stuff the Bus campaign is accepting donations of three or more unopened school supplies for students until Sunday, Aug. 17 at Culver’s on Brackett Avenue + a location on Golf Road by Oakwood Mall. The effort aims to provide needed supplies to support student success.  WEAU

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The WI DNR issued an air quality advisory for several counties including Eau Claire because Canadian wildfire smoke is driving air quality to unhealthy levels for sensitive groups. The advisory began Monday, Aug. 11 at 10 a.m. and will end today at 3 p.m.—official sources monitor the situation closely.  WEAU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Highway 93 reopened ahead of schedule—ending a closure since mid-May—for through traffic between Eau Claire and the Trempealeau County line. The $8 million project included resurfacing the roadway and replacing the Clear Creek Bridge and a box culvert at Pine Creek before the planned late September finish.  WEAU
  • The Eau Claire City Council meets today at 4 p.m. to talk about a revised Century Code update—proposing changes that will go back to the Plan Commission—and to look at adding yield signs at 24 intersections near schools. The council will also have first readings on downtown parking rules—setting fees of $1 and 50 cents an hour from noon to 10 p.m.—and a new rule that would limit bikes and e-bikes on sidewalks to 15 mph, with parking taking effect on June 1, 2026.  WQOW

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Eau Claire Kubb League is recruiting new players ahead of the 2026 U.S. National Championships and invites residents of all skill levels to join spring and fall teams at Heartbreakers. Teams cost $45 and must include at least two players—Eau Claire has hosted this championship for nearly two decades and draws competitors from several states.  WEAU
