  • Over 350 golfers played on Friday at Hickory Hills Golf Course in Eau Claire for the 36th Annual Charity Golf Outing to raise funds for the L.E. Phillips Career Development Center, which helps people find jobs. Officials said a silent auction will run until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10—adding extra support for the center’s programs.  WEAU
  • Today, the Empowered Parent Expo supports new and expecting families by offering free resources at the Eau Claire Children's Museum with booths on lactation consulting, birth centers, physical therapy and mental health support. Organized by Mama Bear Family Care, the fair runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.—free museum admission ensures both parents and children can attend together.  WQOW

  • UW-Eau Claire will use a robot dog in its new assistive systems and robot engineering major to let students learn programming and hardware skills—its features include walking upstairs, shaking hands, and potential adaptations to help people with disabilities.  WEAU

  • Lawmakers from Wisconsin and Minnesota urged the Canadian Embassy to act as Canadian wildfire smoke continues to cloud Midwest air, compromising air quality. They recommended using advanced technology for early fire detection— and boosting forest management to reduce future wildfire risks.  WEAU
  • Minnesota now lets motorcycles filter through stopped traffic if they keep to 25 mph and at most 15 mph above the speed of surrounding cars. Experts say drivers and riders from Eau Claire must learn the new rules—especially when crossing state lines—to avoid road hazards.  WIProud

HEALTH NEWS

  • Carepool launched its new 24/7 on-demand medical ride service for aging adults & people with disabilities in Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls on August 1 in response to recent hospital closures. The service added five wheelchair-accessible vehicles and will hire 50 drivers to support Medicaid and Medicare members.  WQOW

  • Charlotte Akervik returned to Eau Claire on August 1 with the Walter Cup Trophy—fans held the trophy at Dooley’s Pub. The Eau Claire Express won their game with a score of 2 to 1 and teams from Augusta, Boyceville and Fall Creek recorded wins at the American Legion State softball tournament.  WEAU
