  • Community members can support children in need by buying a Blizzard today—each treat sold triggers a $1 donation to Gundersen Hospital in La Crosse to help fund essential treatments.  WQOW
  • The Empowered Parents Expo will return this weekend at the Children’s Museum of Eau Claire to connect local families with vendors, keynote speakers, car seat safety checks and a free prenatal yoga session. Organizers expect a larger turnout than last year’s nearly 200 attendees—registration is required for safety checks and yoga on Saturday, August 2 from 9 am to 3 pm.  WEAU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UW-Eau Claire will offer a new major in assistive systems and robotics engineering this fall and has received a robot dog to help students learn key skills—students have already started testing its grabber arm and camera controls as discussions about naming it continue.  WQOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • County officials in Eau Claire confirmed Jon Johnson as the new county administrator—he comes from the highway department where he served as highway commissioner—and he will officially assume the role on September 8.  News8000.com
  • Today, the City of Eau Claire and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation hold a public meeting at the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library to gather feedback on the Dewey Street Bridge project on Dewey Street from Gibson Street to Galloway Street. The project, estimated at $14 million, includes removing the old bridge + building a new one with roadway, sidewalk and trail updates, with design finishing by Nov. 1 and construction starting in 2027.  WEAU
