COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bob's House for Dogs, which has cared for senior and special needs dogs for nearly 20 years, is expanding its facility to add space for cats—two recovery rooms are included for better care. The expansion will be finished by the end of the year and cats will be introduced slowly as staff and volunteers gain more experience.  WQOW

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Altoona's container park The Yard is opening today with Ne-Ne's Tacos as one of four vendors — the owners, Rene and Rhoda Perez, have transformed their food truck business into a permanent space after three years of delays and now plan to expand their menu and services. Future improvements are expected as they continue to grow and serve the community.  WQOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Tony Evers approved a $4.48 million resurfacing project for US 12 between Industrial Drive in Altoona and the Fall Creek Bridge that will start work on August 11. A public meeting is set for 10 a.m. on August 1 at the Clubhouse at Lake Altoona County Park—local residents and business owners will learn more about the planned improvements and traffic delays.  WQOW

HEALTH NEWS

  • Big Falls Beach and Half Moon Beach are closed this weekend for all water activities because the City-County Health Department reported very high bacteria levels that could make people sick. Riverview Beach and Lake Altoona Beach are under advisory—officials warn that water activities at these sites are not recommended.  WQOW

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today the professional pickleball tour PPA Challenger Series is hosting a tournament at the new Gower Park pickleball complex in Lake Hallie. The event features amateur and pro players along with a seniors open tournament and is the first professional pickleball event in the Chippewa Valley aimed at growing the sport.  WQOW
