CRIME NEWS

  • Eau Claire authorities suspended court proceedings for 33-year-old Andrey Sichuga—who had a gun on school grounds after refusing to leave Putnam Heights Elementary following a job rejection—and committed him to DHS with a review hearing scheduled for October 21.  WIProud
  • A Township of Union man was charged after the Eau Claire Regional SWAT Team carried out a search warrant on July 16 that led police to seize 17 firearms (handguns, hunting rifles, and semi-automatic AR-style rifles), drugs, and cash ($1,564); he is held on a $50,000 bond in Eau Claire County Jail.  WQOW
  • On July 16th, 2025, a search of a property in the Town of Union led authorities to detain three people and seize suspected drugs, firearms, and cash—43-year-old Shaun Fillmore now faces multiple drug and firearm charges with a $50,000 cash bond set.  WEAU
  • An Eau Claire man, James Jones, 38, was charged with causing death while driving with a suspended license after a fatal crash on July 19 at 12:45 p.m. at Hwy 12 and Green Meadows Road in the Town of Lincoln—police say a truck driver was injured and later died, his $5,000 bond was set, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 12.  WEAU
  • Eau Claire man Mark Sokolowski was charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle after a two-vehicle crash on Christmas eve near Menomonie killed Correctional Officer Jeff Reynolds and injured four—he returned to court Tuesday—bound for further proceedings with an arraignment set for September 24.  WEAU

  • Aubrey Mancl, an Altoona High School student, is creating a sustainable pollinator garden project to earn a Girl Scouts Gold Award at Dimensions Living in Eau Claire. She planted annual and perennial flowers — a step that will let residents help care for the garden in the future.  WIProud

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Eau Claire residents got access last Tuesday when the city launched the Northern Lite Ride Service app that offers affordable rides to popular locations. The service operates Monday through Friday from 6:45 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.—general fares cost $1.75, student fares cost $1.25, and seniors pay 85 cents per ride.  News8000.com
