- ➤ On Jul 21, 2025, Eau Claire Memorial’s first graduating class from 1958, which had 499 students, gathered at Wild Ridge Golf Course—joining dozens of fellow alumni to remember their milestone and share memories of their school days. WIProud
- ➤ Jeanette Wangen turned 102 on Monday and has spent years crocheting yarn hats for active-duty veterans—she estimates she has sent about 4,000 hats since 2018 and now gives completed ones to Dennis Voigt for shipping. WQOW
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ An Eau Claire man charged with having a gun on school grounds saw his trial paused when 33-year-old Andrey Sichuga — who lingered at Putnam Heights Elementary in April after ringing the doorbell because he was not hired — was found unable to stand trial and will be sent to DHS with a review hearing set for October 21. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Joe Maurer has finished the mural 'The River Above Us' on the downtown 5th Avenue tunnel—this artwork shows local wildlife like beavers and frogs and took 250 hours with help from other local artists. He said he plans to create more large murals in the city. WQOW
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Demolition began on July 21st at the historic UW Eau Claire campus—where Zorn Arena, Brewer Hall, and Kjer Theatre are located—and the nearly 84,000-foot area will be redeveloped into green space and pedestrian walkways by September. WIProud
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Eau Claire County nominated Jon Johnson—who has served as Highway Commissioner since 2015—to be the next County Administrator. The county board will vote on his nomination on July 29 and he will begin the role on September 8 if confirmed. WQOW
- ➤ Jon Johnson, the current Eau Claire County Highway Commissioner, was nominated by the board's Committee on Administration to be the next county administrator (announcement came late Monday) and his nomination now awaits review (no further details were provided). Leader-Telegram
- ➤ Today, the Eau Claire City Council votes on the Century Code update that would allow smaller lot sizes and a broader range of homes to ease housing challenges. The update also includes a tree ordinance that would charge a fee for removing large healthy trees on big lots—some residents say the fees might be unfair. WQOW
