- ➤ Next week, the Eau Claire City Council will consider the Century Code Update, a major change to the city's zoning rules that includes strict tree protection measures — a removal of a tree with a 12-inch diameter would need a replacement sapling or a $400 fee per inch. Some community members and local builders worry the rule could raise costs for homeowners, and two council members plan an amendment exempting most single-family properties before the July 21 meeting and the vote at 4 p.m. on July 22. - ➤ On Tuesday, July 22, the Eau Claire City Council will vote on a new Code Update that may add a fee for removing trees on properties over 10,000 square feet. The fee is calculated as 30% of the inches removed and could reach $400 per inch for large trees, but it will not apply to small, sick, or dead trees, and the public can comment on July 21. WEAU
