  • On Tuesday night, downtown Eau Claire hosted the —first 715 Day— at the Brewing Projekt as dozens gathered to enjoy food trucks, vendors and prizes. Organizers said the local drink —715 Shandy— will benefit animal shelters.  WEAU

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Eau Claire Fire Department says water rescues have increased this summer as hazardous conditions on the Chippewa River led to eight incidents since May (including two fatalities), and Deputy Fire Chief Robert Haller advises groups to stay safe and urges bystanders to call for help if they see an emergency.  WQOW

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Jamf announced Tuesday a new strategic reinvestment plan to drive long-term growth—6.4% of its full-time workforce will be impacted as the company estimates charges between $11.0 and $12.5 million. Most of these charges will be incurred in the third quarter and the plan will be substantially complete by the end of the fourth quarter.  WEAU

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Eau Claire have seen added humidity because corn and soybeans release water vapor through a process called evapotranspiration—often known as corn sweat—with corn stalks releasing about 1/3 inch of water a day during rapid growth, according to UW-Extension expert Jerry Clark.  WQOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Veterans living at Klein Hall in Chippewa Falls face housing changes as the facility will close by the end of September after nearly $1M in funding was denied — officials have discussed options including moving some veterans to a Grant Per Diem program nearly four hours away. Lawmakers are drafting a bill to secure $1.9M to help keep veteran housing open if possible.  WQOW
  • Today, the Wisconsin DNR is seeking volunteers statewide to teach mandatory basic hunter education classes and lead advanced outdoor skills programs for new and experienced hunters. Applicants must complete certification through an apprenticeship or mini academy and pass a background check — the program has educated over 1 million hunters since 1967.  WEAU
  • Eau Claire County allocated the final ARPA grants with $2.8 million going toward broadband expansion + matching township funds to bring in high-speed providers, now covering 99.2% of the county and supporting telehealth and remote learning.  WQOW
