  • North High School Girls Basketball held its youth camp where the team inspired younger players and collected food donations, and on Thursday the varsity players delivered the donations to Sojourner House—a shelter for the city’s homeless population.  WEAU
  • At a library event on Wednesday evening — held at L.E. Phillip’s Memorial Library — speakers discussed Altoona’s Solis Circle and its link to affordable housing.  Leader-Telegram

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Merchants Bank is marking 150 years this summer with community events at its locations (including the Eau Claire branch) across the region. President Greg Evans said the bank supports local growth and steady jobs for over 400 residents (a milestone for local banking).  WIProud

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Board of Regents for the Universities of Wisconsin approved a tuition increase of up to 5 percent for the 2025–26 academic year—most universities will add an optional 1 percent while UW-River Falls seeks a 5.8 percent increase. Lawmakers and Gov. Tony Evers agreed on a new state budget that boosts funding for the system, a move that helped secure the measure.  WEAU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local law enforcement will hold a Vigilant Parent class at the Sheriff’s Office on July 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to help parents learn how to monitor online activity and use safe settings—officers from the Sheriff’s Office, local police, and the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigations are teaming up for the program.  WEAU
  • Kathryn Schauf retired after ten years as county administrator, leaving four finalists for the position—two local candidates and two outside hires. The finalists will visit the county next week for interviews with the Administration Committee, with a recommendation to the county board later this month and a final decision set for September.  WQOW
  • Eau Claire city and county agencies held trainings after last week's devastating flooding in central Texas highlighted what a major disaster could look like. Officials noted that while the chance of a massive flash flood here remains low, updating emergency plans for events like dam failure stays a priority.  WEAU

  • Northwest Wisconsin Champions flag football program will send its 14U and 12U teams to the national championships in Canton, Ohio from July 17th to 20th. Organizer Bobby Diaz said the teams will represent their community and families while aiming for championship success—building on years of strong competition.  WEAU
