ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ After a series of fatal motorcycle crashes in western Wisconsin—including five recent accidents, 33 reported statewide in June with 6 in Eau Claire and 4 in Chippewa and Dunn Counties, and one fatality in Chippewa—the State Patrol urged riders to ride sober, limit distractions, and wear helmets and protective gear. - ➤ Education advocates and school leaders say the new state budget does not provide enough support for schools & leaves some districts with cuts while others get more funds. Eau Claire Area School District will lose $2 million in general aid and Eleva-Strum will lose $185,000, which may force rural communities to raise property taxes or pass referendums to make up the gap. - ➤ The Wisconsin Office of Rural Health released a report showing that rural fire departments face staffing, funding, and training challenges that could reduce their emergency responses. Fire chiefs noted that rising costs and fewer volunteers have worsened since the COVID pandemic — local governments are now urged to improve recruitment and funding flexibility to keep fire services sustainable.
