- ➤ Royal Credit Union held its first Diaper Drive in May—collecting over 12,300 diapers, 170 packages of wipes, and raising more than $3,900 to support local food and diaper banks. The bank will continue hosting the drive each May to help families in need. WEAU
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Eau Claire police investigated a weekend drowning at Half Moon Lake when officers responded Sunday morning to an unoccupied boat and found a person in the water—DNR and ECFD assisted while details remain limited and the investigation continues. WQOW
- ➤ A firefighter rescued a man from the Chippewa River last Tuesday at around 8 a.m.—he swam out to keep the man afloat between the Lake St. and Water St. bridges until an ECFD boat arrived—and the man was taken to a local hospital where he is expected to be okay. WQOW
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Tourism in Eau Claire County reached a record $461 million in 2024, Visit Eau Claire reported. Governor Tony Evers said Wisconsin’s tourism industry generated a record $25.8 billion and showed strong growth that should bring more visitors next year — setting a new high in economic impact. WEAU

- ➤ Senator Jesse James and Representative Clint Moses testified on bills that would use $1 million to buy and renovate the closed Libertas Treatment Center in Chippewa Falls and turn it into a 50-bed center for addiction recovery. Lutheran Social Services and Upper Michigan have acquired the facility and will offer daily therapy and job training programs—local Chambers of Commerce back the plan. WEAU
