COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Pablo Foundation has donated $422,000 to the New Day Resource Center so it can buy and fix up a building on Gibson Street for a day shelter operated by Hope Gospel Mission. Western Dairyland said they will close on the building by June 17, begin renovations in August, and plan to open the shelter in January—while they continue to raise funds for the project.  WQOW
  • Eau Claire was named Wisconsin's best place to live by U.S. News and World Report+ it ranked 49th nationally and is the highest-rated community in the state.  News8000.com
  • Residents at Our House Senior Living Center held a prom on Friday to help spark happy memories as they danced and voted for a prom King & Queen. Local businesses donated flowers and a band volunteered to perform at the event, one of several activities planned for the center's memory care residents.  WEAU
  • The Boys and Girls Club of Eau Claire closed its teen center on Friday after a pipe burst in the basement flooded the space and displaced about 45 kids—staff said they are working with the city to identify further impacts and repair the damage without a set timeline.  WEAU

CRIME NEWS

  • Kenneth Van Meter, a 42-year-old man from Mondovi, pleaded guilty in March to causing a fatal crash while driving intoxicated and was sentenced to 15 years in jail—10 years of extended supervision after a 2023 crash that killed Tammy Jarecki in Eau Claire.  WIProud

  • A fourth grade class at Roosevelt Elementary in Eau Claire designed unique donuts as part of an end-of-year project. A Dunkin Donuts on North Clairemont Ave will make each student’s creation — including one that sold out three times — daily until July 2.  WEAU
  • Fourth grade students at Roosevelt Elementary designed creative donuts for a class project — Dunkin Donuts on Clairemont Avenue will feature one child’s design each day until July 2. The project lets the kids see their ideas turn into a real treat they can taste.  WQOW

HEALTH NEWS

  • Oakleaf Clinics held a ribbon cutting ceremony today at its newly renovated Pediatrics clinic on Stein Boulevard in Eau Claire. Families met with the clinic’s five providers while children enjoyed crafts and face painting — a setup designed to focus on young patients’ needs.  WEAU

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Friday night, the Eau Claire Express scored 15 runs to beat the Duluth Huskies 15-6 and raised their season total to 55 runs—Joey Flom and McGwire Turner each had 5 RBI in the strong win. The team has been near unstoppable at the plate in the early Northwoods League games.  WEAU
