  • Cyclists in Eau Claire are preparing for Bike Week, which will run from June 1 to 8 as more than 15 groups plan events with the Wisconsin Bike Federation. The celebration will include a kickoff beach party at Haymarket Plaza on June 1 at 2 p.m. — organizers also plan a 6-mile costume ride for families.  WEAU

CRIME NEWS

  • Eau Claire County officials warned residents, contractors, and business owners that fraudulent invoices naming Matt Michels are circulating that falsely claim to be from the Planning & Development Department — residents should verify any invoice by contacting the department using official information before making payments.  WEAU
  • Eau Claire police charged 47-year-old Leo Lacy with 23 crimes after a manhunt that saw him threaten someone with a gun, crash his car in the East Side Hill neighborhood, and trigger a school lockdown - officers later found him in a garage storage area and he appeared in court on Wednesday.  WQOW
  • Eau Claire tattoo artist Christopher Ardoin, 44, was charged Wednesday with one count of third-degree sexual assault and four counts of fourth-degree sexual assault after alleged incidents of inappropriate touching during tattoo sessions between March 2024 and February 2025—he posted a $1,000 cash bond and must now have a third-party witness present during his tattoo procedures.  WQOW
  • 41-year-old Nathan Stevens led police on a chase that damaged seven police cars and now faces charges including two counts of 1st degree recklessly endangering safety after an officer rammed his vehicle; he told the court he had not secured an attorney and a new court date is set for June 10th.  WIProud

  • Tourism brought millions of dollars to the Chippewa Valley in 2023 as music festivals and the Northern Wisconsin State Fair drew visitors who boosted local hotels, restaurants and shops. Local leaders noted that some groups like the Pablo Center adjusted their weekend events to avoid direct competition with the busy season—while tourism data for 2024 will be released in June.  WEAU
  • Chippewa Valley Regional Airport announced that Sun Country Airlines will extend its seasonal nonstop flight service to Fort Myers—running on Mondays and Fridays from January 30 to April 6, 2026—to give travelers direct access to Florida's Gulf Coast during Wisconsin's cold months.  News8000.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Downtown Eau Claire construction is in progress as North Barstow Street is closed to replace pedestrian ramps, crosswalks, road parts, curbs and gutters—local businesses are adjusting for the changes. The closures will last until June 20 and the city offers free parking at the North Barstow parking ramp—business owners expect customers to keep visiting.  WIProud
  • Yesterday, the Eau Claire City Council voted to support a Film and Television Production Incentive Program and plans to bring back the Wisconsin Film Office as part of Governor Tony Evers’ budget proposal. The proposal has bipartisan backing—if Bill 231 passes the Senate it will move to the Assembly.  WIProud
