- ➤ Downtown Eau Claire, Inc. has invited North Barstow business owners to a meeting today from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Menomonie Market Food Co-op to discuss an upcoming three-week construction project that will close part of North Barstow Street and include free parking at the North Barstow Parking Ramp starting May 23. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Attorney General Josh Kaul met with victim service providers & criminal justice partners on Monday to discuss problems after federal cuts reduced funding for the Victims of Crime Act from $44 million to $13 million, which forced several programs to cut services and staff. The Wisconsin DOJ requested nearly $68 million in state funding over the next two years to help address the loss of federal dollars. WEAU
- ➤ The Wisconsin Department of Transportation began a four-month resurfacing project on Highway 93 in Pleasant Valley on Monday after Governor Evers approved a ($7.7 million) contract to repair pavement, a bridge, and a culvert. Detours will run via I-94, Highway 37 and Highway 10 and the work will last (50 working days) until it is expected to finish in late September. WEAU
- ➤ Officials held a public meeting in Eau Claire to discuss plans for a daily passenger train service connecting the Twin Cities and our local area — community members weighed in on departure times, ticket fares and train amenities — while the West Central Wisconsin Rail Coalition said a state-supported study will begin later this year to help pave the way for service in four to six years.
