  • Eau Claire veteran Tong Toua Xiong, who served from 1960 to 1975 and later worked at Minnesota Wire Cable, reflected on the importance of Hmong-Lao Veterans Day declared May 14 and urged locals to remember Hmong contributions during the Vietnam War.  WEAU
  • Western Dairyland Economic Opportunity Council received $600K from the state to support its One Better Way capital campaign, which will fund the new Day Resource Center at 1 Better Way in downtown Eau Claire to help those facing housing instability.  WEAU
  • Prevail Bank is hosting a free Community Shred Day today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its Eau Claire branch on Fairfax Street — for every pound shredded, the bank will donate $1 up to $1,000 to benefit Hope Village of Chippewa Falls.  WEAU
  • Ten beagles from Ridglan Farms are now at the Eau Claire Community Humane Association today and the organization is seeking foster homes to help the dogs adjust.  WEAU
  • Foundations Health and Wholeness, a local nonprofit, said it urgently needs more foster families to care for over 100 children and is calling on Eau Claire residents to support teens, sibling groups and children who have faced trauma—respite care is available for caregivers.  WEAU

  • Midwest Home Supply announced on social media that it will temporarily close for an inventory move — the store is set to reopen in its new Mall Drive location on May 28 after relocating from its former site at the old Shopko Plaza.  WQOW
