- ➤ The trees used for rope swinging and cliff jumping at Mount Simon Park have been cut down for safety and a fence with warning signs was installed Friday — city officials say the move follows a past incident where a person was hurt. The park remains off limits for climbing and jumping, with Half Moon Beach designated for swimming. WQOW

- ➤ A house on Taft Avenue caught fire around 9:57 a.m. Sunday morning as Eau Claire Fire & Rescue quickly put out the flames from the breezeway with no injuries reported and the cause under investigation. WEAU
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students at Putnam Heights Elementary School raised funds for new PE equipment during their first fun run — laps around the school turned into support for better physical education. The event marked an early step in using student activities to improve school sports programs. Leader-Telegram
- ➤ Eliot Cole, a senior at Eau Claire North, was accepted to West Point with a scholarship and plans to study systems engineering to join the Army Corps of Engineers—he received his letter in March and was nominated by Congressman Derrick Van Orden and Senator Tammy Baldwin. WQOW
