- ➤ Volunteers with local groups such as Pleasant Hills Go-Getters 4-H, Cub Scouts, and the American Legion placed roughly 2300 flags on veterans' graves Saturday morning at Lakeview Cemetery ahead of Memorial Day—other groups will replace flags at additional cemeteries while the retired flags will be sent to a flag retirement station at River Prairie Park. - ➤ A study by personal injury lawyers Andijar and Levine examined pedestrian fatalities in marked crosswalks using National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data from 2019 to 2023. Nevada recorded nearly 55% of such fatal crashes while Wisconsin had 28.2%, placing the state among the top 10 worst for marked crosswalk incidents. WIProud

- ➤ State democrats held a listening session Saturday—after budget cuts took effect Thursday—to explain changes in Governor Evers’ 'Year of the Kid' budget, including a cut of $15 million for Chippewa Valley emergency rooms that must be used within one month. State Senator Jeff Smith, Representative Jodi Emerson, and Representative Christian Phelps joined community members to discuss concerns over childcare, paid family leave, and affordable healthcare. - ➤ Lara Johnson of Fall Creek was diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2025 and received successful surgery and rounds of radiation that led to her being declared cancer free on April 18.
