  • Retired Air Force Col. Mark Tillman spoke Thursday night at the 23rd annual Leadership Dinner at Florian Gardens, where he shared leadership insights from his Air Force One experience. The event raised funds for Scouting America—Chippewa Valley Council.  WEAU

CULTURE NEWS

  • Micon Cinemas will show several films this weekend, including Mortal Kombat II, The Sheep Detectives, and a Billie Eilish concert film at Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls & Oakwood Mall, with anniversary screenings like Fried Green Tomatoes and Winter Hymns drawing local audiences.  WEAU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Chippewa Valley Technical College Board will vote on a proposed budget that lowers the mill rate to $61.75 per $100,000—after a 7% property value rise—during a May 28 public hearing at 1 p.m. in the Business Education Center; the tax levy will be set in October.  WQOW
  • Canvas is available again for Eau Claire Area School District students and staff as normal instructional activities resume after a security breach disrupted access, and the district will continue monitoring updates from Instructure.  WEAU
  • Renée Wachter, UW-Superior chancellor, was named interim president of the Universities of Wisconsin effective May 18 (a search committee chaired by Regent Ashok Rai will choose a permanent president later this year).  WQOW

  • The city of Eau Claire seeks a $250,000 WEDC grant to redevelop a 7,700 sqft space at Haymarket Landing for JP Nunez’s planned 200-seat steakhouse Condesa near the Pablo Center, which is expected to create 30 to 40 jobs and generate $2M in annual revenue.  WEAU

  • UW-Eau Claire's baseball team faced UW-Whitewater in an elimination game during the WIAC tournament on May 8th while the softball team opened its tournament against UW-Stevens Point. Prep matches included Eau Claire Memorial hosting Fall Creek, Eau Claire North traveling to Marshfield, and Osseo-Fairchild playing Melrose-Mindoro.  WEAU
