- ➤ The National Association of Letter Carriers will partner with local groups on May 10 for its 33rd Stamp Out Hunger food drive, where volunteers will pick up non-perishable food donations from mailboxes and post offices to support local food banks like Feed My People. The effort is set to collect over 65,000 pounds of food to help meet community needs — those in the area can join by placing a bag of food by their mailbox. WEAU
- ➤ Royal Credit Union has partnered with Feed My People Food Bank, St. Croix Valley Food Bank, and Diaper Bank of Minnesota for its first diaper drive in Eau Claire—donations of diapers, wipes, and money will be accepted at any Royal office from May 1 to May 31. The drive aims to help families who struggle to afford enough diapers for their babies. WEAU

- ➤ A fire broke out at the Pablo Center on May 6 when an electrified set piece caught fire during final preparations for UW-EAU Claire's production of Guys and Dolls. UWEC students and faculty quickly put out the fire — no one was hurt — and the performance went on as planned. WIProud
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Eau Claire County is partnering with WRR Environmental to host a Clean Sweep event on May 10th from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 5200 Ryder Road in Eau Claire so residents can drop off hazardous household items (like oil-based paints, thinners, and solvents) and more (subject to chemical specifications). GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Evers toured Carson Park and the Wisconsin Logging Museum in Eau Claire during National Travel and Tourism Week—he announced a plan to spend $34 million on tourism from his 2025/2027 budget to aid all 72 counties. WIProud
- ➤ On Tuesday afternoon, the Wisconsin DNR suspended burn permits in 30 counties as the forecast shows no rain, low humidity, and variable winds — conditions that have raised fire danger statewide. So far this year, 658 wildfires have burned 2,220 acres, including the Ackley fires that reportedly burned 23 acres along a 4.5-mile stretch of highway. WQOW
