COMMUNITY NEWS

  • WEAU was honored with 14 awards from the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association this weekend—earning first place for weather coverage, significant community impact, healthcare crisis reporting, and election promo while its sports, online, and creative teams won other honors. The awards were given at the Madison Marriott West on Saturday night, recognizing the station’s strong work in the Small Market category.  WEAU

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Yesterday a minor fire occurred at Pablo Center at the Confluence in Eau Claire when an electrified piece of scenery experienced a fault—no one was hurt.  WEAU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Local high school and college students from UW-Stout competed in Make48, a 48-hour challenge to create a safety product for construction sites. Eight teams used tools and high-tech help — the winning team won $2,000 and advanced to nationals — and the docuseries will air tomorrow on Roku.  WEAU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Evers visited the Wisconsin Logging Museum on Monday at Carson Park to honor the state’s 18th century logging work as part of National Travel and Tourism week. He said his 2025-2027 executive budget will invest $34 million in the Department of Tourism to support industries statewide — including outdoor education and film.  WEAU
  • The Eddy Street Bridge on North Eddy will be closed to all vehicles this week after a DOT review found structural and safety concerns, and Union Pacific will complete the repairs. Eau Claire Transit said it will adjust routes so residents in the Mount Simon area keep access — the city issued the closure for public safety.  WIProud

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials in Eau Claire are marking Survive Stroke Week from May 4th to May 10th and advise calling 911 for any stroke signs like facial droop or weakness. Dr. Guilherme Dabus and other experts urge residents to manage high blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol—factors linked to stroke risk.  WIProud

SPORTS NEWS

  • UW-L men’s track and field team won the WIAC meet in Oshkosh with 250.5 points — finishing ahead of UW-Eau Claire’s 149 and UW-Oshkosh’s 122 points. Sprinter Sam Blaskowski set a new NCAA DIII record with 10.08 seconds in the 100-meter dash and broke the WIAC meet record in the 200-meter dash, and the team will host NCAA qualifiers on May 9 and May 15 at 3 p.m.  WIProud
