- ➤ Royal Credit Union in Eau Claire is hosting its second annual diaper drive in partnership with local food banks and Diaper Bank of Minnesota, accepting disposable diaper and wipe donations from May 1 to May 31 to support families in need. WEAU
- ➤ Eau Claire Community Humane Association will take in 12 to 15 beagles from a Dane County facility next week. Rescue teams will provide care as the shelter seeks volunteers, donors, and foster families – many of the dogs needing extra attention. WEAU
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Coulée Coffee began operating in Banbury Place in January after relocating from Sun Valley. The company produces eco-friendly automated pour over machines and EcoPour cups, and CEO Ted Ayliffe said it plans to expand and hire more staff soon. WQOW
- ➤ Wikley Orthotics and Prosthetics is working with the Lupita Project to collect donated prosthetic parts from local patients to help those in need in Mexico & support uninsured patients in town. WEAU
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ At the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Awards Gala held Saturday, WEAU earned awards including a first for Best Live On-Scene Reporting and top three placements in 14 categories. Broadcasters from across the state celebrated outstanding local service at the event. WEAU
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Eau Claire Area School District board approved cutting about 11.5 certified teaching positions to address a $10.5M budget deficit for next school year. The cuts affect roles in special education, instructional coaching, and arts. WQOW
- ➤ Chippewa Valley Technical College is a semifinalist for a $1 million award given by the Aspen Institute — one of 25 schools competing for the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence. An expert panel will pick 10 finalists next month. WEAU
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ This year, No Mow May lets residents support springtime pollinators by leaving lawns un-mowed to allow wildflowers to bloom — a tip shared by horticulture educator Margaret Murphy, who also advises adding low-growing flowers and raising mowing blades. WQOW
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A $15,000 grant from the Eau Claire Community Foundation will help CVTC Dental Clinic expand its summer program from two to three days a week, increasing access to preventive dental care for low-income children this summer (the first award from the Physicians’ Community Impact Fund). WEAU
- ➤ The 2nd Annual Chippewa Valley Dementia Conference will be held on Thursday, June 11 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Chippewa Valley Technical College’s Chippewa Falls Campus, where experts and caregivers will review the latest research and strategies for dementia care. WEAU

- ➤ Eau Claire’s marathon weekend drew nearly 6,000 runners across 5K, 10K and full and half races, and Race Director Emi Uelmen confirmed the event set a new record. Organizers finished cleaning up the course on Sunday — Monday to restore the streets. WQOW
- ➤ On May 4, Eau Claire Immanuel baseball beat Augusta and the softball team won over the Lancers while top golfers from Western Wisconsin wrapped up the Chippewa Valley Championship at Eau Claire Country Club. WEAU
