- ➤ Middle school Girl Scouts in Fall Creek learned fly fishing, fly tying, and stream health in their fourth Stream Girls event — where sixth to eighth graders gained new skills with help from Trout Unlimited, UW-Stout Fly Fishing Club, and Beaver Creek Reserve. WEAU
- ➤ Bethlehem Lutheran Church holds its annual Walk For Hunger Nyre You fundraiser in Altoona, raising money for weekend food bags and for the high school food pantry for students. The event honors late Jim Nyre— a revered community figure whose legacy continues to bring local families together. WEAU
- ➤ The Eau Claire Downtown Farmers Market opens Saturday at Phoenix Park and runs from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. throughout May. In June, the market will expand to include Wednesday and Thursday sessions along with its usual Saturday hours — a change announced by market manager Deidra Barrickman. WEAU

- ➤ ADP Research showed that workers aged 16 to 24 with the same employer received a 10.7% wage increase while Wisconsin workers got only a 4.2% raise (ranking the state 44th nationally). The study also found that only six states had lower wage growth (a sign of slower wage gains in Wisconsin). WIProud

- ➤ On Saturday, UW-E held its annual Astronomy Day as the science department teamed with the Chippewa Valley Astronomical Society to explain science topics like infrared light, radioactivity, telescopes, and meteorites. The event showed that science touches everyday life—teaching visitors that astronomy is not just about outer space while inviting summer visits to the society’s observatory. WEAU

- ➤ Governor Tony Evers appointed three new UW Board of Regents members—Tom Palzewicz, Linda Terwilliger, and Noah Fritz—to fill vacancies left by expired terms, with Palzewicz and Terwilliger set to serve until 2032 and Fritz until 2027. The governor said the appointments come at a key time as the UW works to help students and strengthen higher education in our state. WEAU

- ➤ College sports saw significant action on May 3rd as UW-Eau Claire lost the WIAC women's lacrosse championship to Colorado College while UW-La Crosse defended their track and field titles and UW-Eau Claire finished second overall and swept UW-River Falls in baseball to close their season.
