- ➤ The Chippewa Falls Area Senior Center honored veterans at the Wisconsin Veterans Home by delivering 72 planters, each with an American flag+a 'Thank you for your service' flag funded through donations. Volunteer Joyce Radke said the gesture brought smiles to the veterans. WIProud
- ➤ Roosevelt Elementary students collected over 500 dry goods items and delivered more than 400 pounds of food to the Saint Francis Food Pantry on Friday morning despite gloomy weather — the donations will be distributed every other Monday and Wednesday in May. WQOW
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Chippewa County officials sentenced 27-year-old Jose Dominguez-Garcia to 25 years in prison with 15 years of extended supervision after he pleaded no contest to first-degree reckless homicide for killing his pregnant girlfriend, Rosaly Rodriguez, in 2020—her body was later found in a suitcase at an abandoned farmhouse north of Eau Claire. - ➤ A recent inspection found structural flaws on the Eddy Street bridge, so immediate weight restrictions were imposed and the bridge will close to all vehicular traffic during the week of May 5th. Transit routes 4 and 3/4 in the Mt. Simon area are already affected — Union Pacific plans maintenance and further inspections to see if the bridge can temporarily reopen. WEAU
