- ➤ Chippewa River Trolley Company launches its third season today with fresh routes downtown; tickets go on sale today. WQOW
- ➤ The L.E. Phillips Senior Center hosts a thrift and craft sale starting Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., to support local seniors + last year the sale raised $4,000. WEAU
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ JP—also known as Juan Pablo Nunez—plans to bring Condesa, a live fire steakhouse with Latin flair, to the long-vacant Haymarket Landing space at Haymarket Plaza. Interior work is expected to take about three months, and the restaurant will open around August amid high foot traffic. WQOW
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gas prices in Wisconsin averaged $3.96 as of April 29 while many stations now show over $4, and supply chain issues & increased rural transportation costs from an Indiana refinery outage are likely to push prices higher in the coming days. WQOW
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Altoona police said that the WisDOT project on Highway 53 is nearly complete and all lanes are open, though occasional work remains — a final touch before full project closure. WEAU
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Two Mayo Clinic cardiac nurses in Eau Claire supported each other during personal health crises last year when one was diagnosed with breast cancer and the other with a rare heart condition (SCAD) following abnormal test results; they now share their recovery journeys to promote early detection and women's health. - ➤ Tomorrow — Saturday, May 2 — the Charity Chaser 5K will have over 1,200 runners chasing Bob Gallaher to support UW Carbone Cancer Center as a dollar is donated each time a runner passes him. WEAU
- ➤ The Eau Claire City-County Health Department released its 2025 report today, highlighting food safety efforts and nearly 16,000 drinking water tests, while also focusing on measles prevention and needed outreach for low-income families + it kicked off a new academic partnership with UW-Eau Claire to build a public health workforce. - ➤ Rogers Behavioral Health broke ground in Chippewa Falls Thursday off Highway 178 to build a new mental health hospital offering inpatient, outpatient, residential care and telehealth. Two clinics will open in Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire this fall, with the hospital scheduled to open in spring. WQOW
