COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Feed My People Food Bank will reduce its Eau Claire pop-up distributions from four to two monthly starting in June at the Hunger Action Center (select Mondays and Fridays through December). In 2027, pop-ups will shift to emergency response to support over 250 food programs.  WQOW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Augusta School District is planning significant cuts after its referendum did not pass, leaving a budget shortfall and prompting superintendent Reed Pecha to work toward protecting classroom learning while preparing another referendum in fall and possibly again in spring.  WEAU
  • Seventeen-year-old Hallie Albright attended a driver safety program at CVTC to boost teen confidence on the track - the event offered hands-on instruction to help local youth gain practical driving skills.  Leader-Telegram

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Eau Claire City Council will vote on ABF Ingredients' proposal to build a $270 million facility at Gateway Northwest Industrial Park. The project (tied to a $5.6 million assistance package) is expected to add $56 million in taxable value and up to 100 jobs.  WEAU
  • Congressional candidate Rebecca Cooke visited Eau Claire on Monday to discuss rising health care costs with community members and local leaders; her tour will soon span 19 counties + engage more residents in finding solutions.  Leader-Telegram

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Chippewa Valley Free Clinic in Eau Claire promotes routine immunization during World Immunization Week (April 24 to 30) to encourage residents of all ages to update their vaccines. The clinic is open Tuesdays 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and first and third Thursdays 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  WEAU
  • The Humane World for Animals released its Horrible Hundred report, naming 14 problematic Wisconsin dog breeders, including three in Augusta with unsanitary conditions and neglect. Local humane advocates in Eau Claire advise adopting from shelters which often operate near capacity — underscoring the need for careful consideration when purchasing pets.  WQOW
