COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The L.E. Phillips Senior Center in Eau Claire is accepting clean, gently used items for its thrift sale fundraiser through next Thursday, April 30 (donations do not include electronics, clothes, books, large appliances or furniture). Items may be dropped off during normal business hours at 1616 Bellinger St.  WQOW

CULTURE NEWS

  • Michael, the King of Pop biopic starring Jafar Jackson and Colman Domingo, is showing at Micon Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, and Oakwood Mall this week. The film tells Michael Jackson’s story from his early Jackson 5 days to his legendary solo career.  WEAU
  • Hmong students hosted a heritage event at Eau Claire North last Friday night, serving authentic food, singing, and cultural performances. President Pauva Her said the event introduced Hmong traditions to a diverse audience interested in learning more.  WEAU
  • UW-Eau Claire student Tim Davis composed original music for the upcoming production of James and the Giant Peach. The show will feature songs created with volunteer musicians and sound designer Andrew Salberg and will be performed tomorrow night.  WEAU

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Eau Claire City Council will review a $270-million biomanufacturing project by ABF Ingredients in a Monday meeting at the Gateway Northwest Business Park. The facility would use 200,000 gallons a day — 3% of the city's 2025 water use and far less than a canceled 2022 proposal.  WQOW

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Adaptive Aquatics swim meet took place at North High School on Friday and brought together adaptive education students from across the Chippewa Valley. Teachers, family members and friends cheered the students as they celebrated their hard work and accomplishments.  WEAU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wisconsin State Highway 85 will be closed Monday, April 27 in Dunn County for a resurfacing project from County Road O to the Dunn/Eau Claire County line east of Caryville — traffic will detour via US 10 and WIS 37 while work lasts 50 business days.  WQOW
  • Eau Claire City Council will review a $270 million biomanufacturing project by ABF Ingredients at 6120 Venture Drive on the north side, hearing a presentation Monday and voting Tuesday. The project may create 90 — 100 new jobs and spur economic activity in the Gateway Northwest Industrial Park.  WEAU
  • Eau Claire County announced that County Highway WW will close for culvert repairs in Drammen starting April 27 and finishing May 7 — drivers must use other local roads as no detour will be marked.  WEAU
