BUSINESS NEWS

  • David Minor will retire as president and CEO of Eau Claire Area Chamber after nine years leading the organization and 35 years in the industry. A search for his replacement will begin on May 15 while Minor remains to ensure a smooth transition.  News8000.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Student mental health referrals in Eau Claire Area School District jumped 59 percent by October, with officials noting that more middle and high school students sought help amid social media and trauma concerns. A $55,000 grant funded an in-house therapist and telehealth pilot to ensure timely support as Mental Health Awareness Month nears in May.  WEAU
  • Kayla Velasquez from Osseo-Fairchild School District was named one of 100 winners of the 2026 Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Teacher Fellowship. The Spanish teacher, nominated by a parent, will receive a $6,000 stipend while her classroom gains an additional $6,000 stipend — a testament to her classroom dedication.  WEAU
  • The UW-Eau Claire Upward Bound program will sponsor the Summer Food Service Program to provide free meals to eligible children this summer at the Hilltop Center. Meals will be served Monday-Friday, June 14-July 10.  WEAU
  • Matt Cecil—one of four Chancellor finalists—hosted a forum at Woodland Theater at Davies Center to discuss AI strategy and critique a remark from Palantir’s CEO; two more candidates will appear later this week.  WEAU
  • Unlike most western Wisconsin districts that passed their referendum last week, Augusta schools failed ours and now brace for potential budget cuts as officials work to secure additional funding.  Leader-Telegram
  • Mitch Olson has been named the new head football coach at Menomonie High School by the Menomonie Area School District, replacing Mike Sinz (now with Eau Claire North). Olson brings 11 years of teaching and coaching experience from La Crosse to the role.  WEAU
  • CVTC students won the SkillsUSA Wisconsin competition, earning a spot at nationals. The success came at a local event in Eau Claire and reflects the team's hard work.  Leader-Telegram

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday night, a DOT camera captured multiple cars parked in traffic under an I-94 overpass between Foster and Osseo during a severe thunderstorm. The Wisconsin State Patrol warned that parking in traffic is dangerous + may cause backups and increased risk of debris, advising drivers to seek indoor shelter.  WQOW
