- ➤ Chippewa Falls is ready for the first-ever Chippewa Valley Bee Expo on Saturday, April 12, at the Northern Wisconsin State Fairgrounds. The event will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.—featuring more than 40 vendors with demonstrations and seminars on beekeeping, cooking with honey, and natural product creation, with tickets at $15 and free entry for youth 10 and under. - ➤ A downtown shop reopened after a burst water pipe damaged its old space and forced a two and a half month closure—its owner held a ribbon cutting on Thursday at the new Wisconsin Makers Market on Barstow Street. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Colton Schneider, 29, who was originally given a four-year sentence for a 2020 sexual assault, pleaded no contest on Thursday to fourth degree sexual assault in Eau Claire as part of a plea deal that sentenced him to one year in jail, crediting the 1,260 days he had already served & requires him to register as a sex offender for 15 years following a successful appeal. - ➤ On April 4 a search of the home at 1105 Barland Street led to charges against 19 people who face 45 counts including meth possession, bail jumping, and animal mistreatment — law enforcement said several individuals were using and selling drugs, with 58-year-old Georgia Eaton charged with maintaining a drug trafficking place. - ➤ Wednesday night, officers from Altoona and Eau Claire forced 33-year-old Joshua Shult from Ladysmith to stop at Kwik Trip on Baumbach Way—he drove erratically following a recent drugged driving arrest, fled using tire deflation devices and vehicle blocking techniques, resisted arrest with a taser, and police later found methamphetamine, THC, and paraphernalia in his car. - ➤ Dry conditions are raising wildfire risks as the Osseo Rural Fire Department and the Wisconsin DNR warned residents not to burn yard waste or debris—fire spread can be rapid. Since the beginning of the year, experts reported 360 wildfires statewide, including seven in Osseo with one burning 80 acres. WEAU
