- ➤ Two Men and a Truck is hosting its annual Movers for Moms donation drive in Eau Claire today — local businesses including every Eau Claire Starbucks, Valley Sports Academy and the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce have set up boxes for personal care items, canned goods and gift cards to benefit Bolton Refuge House. The drive will continue until May 9. WQOW
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 52-year-old Eau Claire man, Jay Conklin, was sentenced to 7 years, 6 months in prison and 5 years of extended supervision—consecutive to his current term—after pleading no contest to solicitation of first-degree intentional homicide for trying to hire inmates at Stanley Correctional Institution to kill a prosecutor. - ➤ Twenty Chippewa Valley Technical College culinary management students competed Tuesday morning to create a Wisconsin sandwich using horseradish from Silver Spring Foods. Winners will see their sandwiches on the menus at Eau Claire Cheese and Deli and KP Catering — judges from Silver Spring Foods led the contest. WEAU
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Saturday, April 5, the Arbor Day Foundation partnered with Subaru to hand out 100 free trees in Eau Claire in preparation for Arbor Day — scheduled for Friday, April 25. Trees were also distributed in La Crosse, Madison, and Milwaukee to help improve community air quality. WEAU
- ➤ The 18 Storm Track team is hosting Severe Weather Awareness Week from April 7 to 11 to explain hazards and give safety tips for severe weather events. Monday focused on flooding and Tuesday covers severe thunderstorms and tornado risks—more on tornadoes will be shared on Thursday. WQOW
