COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A new day resource center is one step closer to opening at 610 Gibson Street to help people facing homelessness. Western Dairyland’s Economic Opportunity Council started pre-campaigning a $5.7 million capital campaign and has secured $1.5 million so far — no timeline has been set.  WIProud
  • The Stand in the Light Memory Choir—80 members who help people with memory loss—will hold its spring concert on April 10 at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Eau Claire. Performances are set for 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. with tickets at $15 for adults and $5 for students.  WEAU

CRIME NEWS

  • On April 3, 41-year-old Nathan Stevens led a high-speed chase in Eau Claire that damaged 7 police squad cars—5 of which were considered total losses—and left 3 officers hospitalized; he faces charges of recklessly endangering safety, possession of meth, and hit and run with injury.  WIProud
  • An Eau Claire woman—Ciara Krueger—was sentenced to one year in jail with work release and five years of probation after a two-year-old in her care was hospitalized with seizures from eating a THC gummy that caused acute cannabis toxicity.  WQOW

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • This week, from April 7 to 11, is Severe Weather Awareness in Wisconsin and Monday's coverage focused on flood safety to warn residents about rapid flash flooding. Flooding is the second leading weather killer and residents—especially those in flood-prone areas—should keep safety kits ready and know their evacuation plans.  WQOW

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Five years ago, voters passed a constitutional amendment that gives crime victims 16 rights to guide the criminal justice process. Local officials in Eau Claire say the law continues to protect victims by using tools like the VINE network to keep them informed—helping ensure their voices are heard.  WEAU
  • Eau Claire community leaders and Senator Jeff Smith toured the courthouse on Monday and warned that the circuit court system’s current funds cover only about 12% of its costs — a shortfall that may force cuts in staff and security — and they urged Governor Evers to add $70 million to the budget.  WQOW

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials reported that measles vaccination rates in parts of western Wisconsin fell more than 20% in some counties over the past decade+ this drop has raised concerns as outbreaks continue in nearby states. Experts warn that although no cases have been reported locally yet, communities may see confirmed cases soon if immunization rates do not improve.  WEAU

SPORTS NEWS

  • Team Hebert (Caden Hebert, Jack Wendlant, Jackson Bestland and Benji Paral) captured gold on Sunday at the U21 Junior Curling Nationals with an 8-5 win over Team Lannoye, finishing the week undefeated. The team will represent the U.S. in the 2026 World Junior Championships after adding to their U18 titles in 2023 and 2024.  WEAU
